Fast-switching Array-Navigation Optics with Uniform Times (FANOUT)

Abstract

We describe modular, rapidly reconfigurable, lossless systems that map one or more input optical patterns into multiple output optical patterns in such a way that if there is no clock skew among inputs, then there is no clock skew among the outputs. Several theorems describe the universal properties of output patterns and what patterns having those properties are realizable. These FANOUT systems are easy to build and include such familiar configurations as switches and star couplers.
